From 11am on Saturday 21st March, we’re having to close our doors while the country faces the challenge of the coronavirus.
We’re very sad about this but you can still plan your visit as we’re taking bookings for dates from 20th April. And for your peace of mind we are offering a no quibble refund for bookings up to 20th June if any dates change as a result of further guidance.
What do I do if I have a booking?
For anyone who has made a booking with us, we’re sorry you will need to postpone your visit because we were looking forward to seeing you.
We’re not sure when the Government will allow us all to reopen, so rest assured we’re totally flexible about giving a refund or arranging a new date.
Also, if you have anything booked in with us over the next 30 days, the team will be in touch to discuss your reservation.

Do you hold rooms provisionally?
No we take a credit card to guarantee reservations and our cancellation policy then applies.
Are there special rates for corporate bookings?
Corporate rates are available on request.
When is check in?
2pm – Early check in can be arranged on request.
Do you have a gym?
We don’t have a gym on site but you are very welcome to use the gym at our sister property Middletons, which is just a 10 minute walk away. You’ll just need to show your welcome card from the Judge’s when you check in to the Emporer’s Gym to gain your complimentary access.
It’s at 52 Skeldergate which is YO1 6DS – or just pick up a map from reception to guide you there.

Do you offer late check out?
Available at £10.00 subject to availability until a maximum of 2pm.
What is offered in the guest rooms?
Tea and coffee making facilities, en-suite bathroom with bath and/or shower, complimentary toiletries.
Do you have a room with a bath?
Most of our rooms (except the new garden rooms) have a bath; if you specifically would like one, please call us when making your room reservation.
Do you have travel cots/Z-beds available? Do you charge for it?
Yes, we have a limited supply and there is no charge.
What are the bar’s opening times?
The bar opens from 11am to 11pm Monday to Saturday. 10.30pm on Sunday.
Is Wi-Fi available?
Wi-Fi is now available in all rooms and all public areas.
Is car parking available?
We do recommend travelling by train wherever possible as we have no on site car parking and we are only a 10 minute walk from the station over Lendal Bridge. We recommend Marygate carpark on Frederick Street (YO30 7DT). You can drive up to The Judge's Lodging and you can drop bags off via Blake street, which is pedestrianised but access is allowed, and we will then direct you to the car park. Or head straight there & walk to the hotel through the picturesque Museum Gardens (5 minute walk). The car park is take a ticket and pay on exit . Charges are approximately £12/24 hours.
If you make your booking directly with us you can take advantage of a £5 per day rate at the Marygate Car Park. Unfortunately, we can’t reserve or guarantee you a space, but when you check out just ask for a token and we can add the £5 to your room account. Normal rates are £16 per day
Do you have a lift?
No lift, but we have ground floor rooms and all of our staff are here to help.
Are pets allowed in the rooms?
We’re sorry but we are only able to accept working dogs.
Are dogs allowed in the bar ?
We love to welcome well-behaved owners and their dogs to the inn, but please be aware that not everyone loves your dog as much as you do. To help us keep happy customers of both the two and four legged varieties, please observe our simple requests:
- Dogs are allowed in the bar area, but not in the dining only areas
- Please don’t let your dog jump or pester other guests, or their pets or disturb others by barking
- Make sure your dog is clean and dry before they come in to the inn
Is there disabled access?
Yes- we have one accessible guest room which has its own parking space for blue badge holders and separate entrance. The Cellar Bar and downstairs dining areas are fully accessible.
Do you serve breakfast?
Served from 7:30am ’til 10am weekdays and 8am ’til 10:30am weekends and bank holidays. Full English or continental breakfast is available.
Can you organize packed lunches for the morning? What do we get and how much does it cost?
Available on request in advance at £10 per person.

What is your cancellation policy?
As long as you cancel your booking before 10am on the day before you’re due to arrive, there will be no charge. Bookings cancelled after 10:00am on the day before you’re due to arrive will be charged for the first night’s stay. No Shows will be charged for the first night’s stay.
What is the Advanced Purchase Cancellation Policy?
Your credit or debit card will have been charged at the time of booking, and this is a non-refundable, non-transferable amount. Should you need to cancel there will be no refund applicable.
